EUDR TO BE POSTPONED AGAIN

News on the halting of the European Deforestation Regulation could not have come timelier. The International Council of Tanners was meeting when word of it first trickled in, to the relief of industry members from five continents.

“The announcement to postpone still needs to be enacted into a proposal from the Commission,” said Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano Secretary General of COTANCE. “But I would say that we have an 85 percent chance that it will go through.”

Kerry Brozyna said that despite the probable respite (to the end of 2026), EUDR could still severely hamper trade, especially for rural producers and exporters who’d have to meet the complex (and costly) mapping and reporting of requirements.
