LEATHER - A BIO-BASED MATERIAL

At the 38th IULTCS congress, Gustavo Adrian Defeo, scientific director of CTC ARS Tinctoria, announced that leather will be officially recognized as a bio-based material under European CEN/TC 411 standards by year’s end.

This classification, which follows four years of work to counter greenwashing, provides a harmonized framework for verifying and communicating renewable content, bolstering transparency and trust while strengthening leather’s position in sustainability debates and giving the supply chain clearer grounds for environmental claims.
