- Following Brexit, the United Kingdom has established new health certificates for animal products, which APHIS has posted here. The new certificates must be used for shipments dated on or after October 1, 2021, to Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Northern Ireland will continue to accept EU health certificates.

The Real Leather. Stay Different. Student Design Competition recently concluded in Taiwan with winners awarded across Garment, Footwear, Accessories and Design categories. Competition winners were selected from a highly competitive field of 540 students from 34 universities. An exciting awards ceremony and fashion show, held in Taipei, to honor the winners drew high-profile guests from fashion brands, retailers, media and government. - USDA submitted a dossier to the World Organization for Animal Health detailing the actions taken to finalize a new African Swine Fever protection zone in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to protect the U.S. swine herd and to ensure the continued export of pork and pork products. More here.
- U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai announced plans for a new round of trade talks with China and outlined priorities for U.S.-China trade relations in a speech she delivered yesterday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Read her remarks here.
Weekly Hides and Skins Stats
- Net sales of cured cattle hides reported for the period ending September 23, 2021, were 284,600 pieces and net sales of wet blue were 130,600 pieces. Reported shipments of cured hides were 213,600 and of wet blue were 123,000. China was the largest buyer of cured hides and Italy was the largest destination for wet blue. See more. - U.S. Cattle Slaughter was 637,000 last week, a decrease of 0.6 percent from the previous week. Total cattle slaughter in 2021 is 24,970,000 head, up 3.3 percent from the same period in 2020. See more.
- USDA AMS Major Packer Hide Price Report provided prices for five types of hides at five price points, with a spread of $18 for branded southwest cows to $41 for Colorado branded steers. See more.
