U.S. hides and skins August 2021 export data is now available. Get a summary of the data here.
- Cured cattle hides exports 63 percent in volume and 69 percent in value compared to 2020. Download the data here.
- Wet blue shipments increased 55 percent in volume and 56 percent in value. Vietnam was the largest buyer by value, totaling more than $81.2 million.
- Pig skin exports fell 2 percent in volume, but increased 9 percent in value compared to 2020. Download the data here.

- Members of Congress urged Federal Maritime Commission Chairman Daniel Maffei to address severe price gouging in shipping costs and the rise in anti-competitive business practices by large shipping alliances.
- U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai met with her Chinese counterpart Liu He to discuss the U.S.-China trade relationship. A readout from their meeting is available here.
- The House Agriculture Committee last week held a hearing to review the state of the U.S. livestock industry. More information is available here.
Weekly Hides and Skins Stats
- Net sales of cured cattle hides reported for the period ending September 30, 2021, were 568,800 pieces and net sales of wet blue were 166,500 pieces. Reported shipments of cured hides were 501,000 and of wet blue were 131,900. China was the largest buyer of cured hides and Italy was the largest destination for wet blue. See more. - U.S. Cattle Slaughter was 657,000 last week, an increase of 3.1 percent from the previous week. Total cattle slaughter in 2021 is 25,628,000 head, up 3.3 percent from the same period in 2020. See more.
- USDA AMS Major Packer Hide Price Report provided prices for seven types of hides at seven price points, with a spread of $17 for branded southwest cows to $51 for Native steers. See more.
