- More than 50 fashion and textile companies this week at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland declared their support for an initiative spearheaded by global non-profit Textile Exchange urging governments to pursue trade policies that incentivize the use of environmentally preferred materials. U.S. hides and skins September 2021 export data is now available. Get a summary of the data here.
- Cured cattle hides exports increased 59 percent in volume and 72 percent in value compared to 2020. Download the data here.
- Wet blue shipments rose 60 percent in volume and 60 percent in value. China/Hong Kong was the largest buyer by value, totaling more than $95.4 million.
- Pig skin exports increased 9 percent in volume and 19 percent in value compared to 2020. Download the data here.

- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration last week made public an Emergency Temporary Standard that requires employers with 100 or more employees to mandate vaccinations or require weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated employees. More here.
- The U.S. and European Union announced the creation of a new transatlantic collaboration platform on agriculture designed to tackle the global challenges of sustainability and climate change. Read more.
Weekly Hides and Skins Stats
- Net sales of cured cattle hides reported for the period ending October 28, 2021, were 463,500 pieces and net sales of wet blue were 92,400 pieces. Reported shipments of cured hides were 402,400 and of wet blue were 134,200. China was the largest buyer of cured hides and Italy was the largest destination for wet blue. See more. - U.S. Cattle Slaughter was 650,000 last week, a decrease of 2.7 percent from the previous week. Total cattle slaughter in 2021 is 28,254,000 head, up 3.1 percent from the same period in 2020. See more.
- USDA AMS Major Packer Hide Price Report provided prices for six types of hides at seven price points, with a spread of $13 for branded southwest cows to $31 for heavy Texas steers. See more.
